The fact that the product rankings change constantly AND that the results are very specific and listed in detail, further support that this site and the tester are very objective. Historical results are maintained so you can compare over time, and you do see product results change with each test (done every month to every 3 months depending on whether there are any new reported malware in the field, and a sample can be obtained for testing).I've done a bit of research on the site and tester, to make sure it was not one of those 'sponsored' sites by a vendor that are made to appear as objective, neutral reviews. Automatic application activity notification whenever an application is trying to do something on the network (take simple actions to allow or deny the application to run or to interact with specific domains or local devices)Detailed malware detection test results are regularly posted here for nearly 2 dozen products, free and paid:These are very detailed, showing EXACTLY by name for each malware/virus if it is detected or not, for each product, then products are ranked 95%, 85%, 75% etc based on detection rates. If after doing some research and being advised not to use MacKeeper, someone still chooses to do so, then you can't help that, but hopefully it wasn't because there wasn't information available. My aim is not to support or dissuade anyone about a particular product, you pick / use or don't use whatever product you want, and live with the consequences, just remember that your decision can effect others, by virtue of whether you are part of stopping the spread, or being a part of it.I highly recommend you don't just look at the current results, but look at the past ones as well. For example, if someone uses MacKeeper because they don't know better, then in some ways the community failed for not getting the word out. Education and information is the best defense, (as with so many things in life). I selected “Home” among other options “Work” and “Public” to set up NetBarrier 2013 on my new MacBook Air with Mountain Lion as the operating system. However, soon after my purchase, Intego launched Internet Security 2013, and I was qualified to upgrade to the latest version believing that I would get all the features of the previous versions plus new features or at least the improved version of its firewall, NetBarrier.I downloaded Internet Security 2013 and went through the installation process. This site only ONLY addresses virus detection results, it does not in general make any conclusions or post results regarding performance, installation, support, UI, etc.Why did I uninstall Internet Security 2013 10.7.3I was a happy user of NetBarrier X5 and as a result, I decided to purchase the next version, VirusBarrier X6. Conversely, a vendor that does maintain a current database might still not be effective if the program itself is buggy. A great engine can be crippled if the database is not updated in a timely manner. Remember, an A/V product rests on two main things, the scanning engine AND the malware database. ![]() NetBarrier Monitor window is too big and not resizable, so I couldn't leave it on to monitor my network activity.5. When trying to block a connection(s) to specific domains, the “Once” button didn’t work on Mountain Lion, very frustrating, so I couldn’t block the connection.4. NetBarrier 2103 doesn’t provide much security if you select “Home” as your initial setup.3. Would you buy a car just for its engine? Wouldn’t you consider its shape, color, interior and exterior design? What an iPhone or an iPad would be without their beautiful and colorful application icons and interfaces?2. It doesn’t offer much visually and less interactive than the previous versions. I want to see the application Icons on the left side of the configuration tab like the previous version of NetBarrier, and I want to be able to drag an application icon to the configuration tab with the choice of “Allow”, “Block” or “Ask”.6. I accidentally allowed some connections instead of blocking them, and I realized it after a week. It puts a lot of strain on your eyes while trying to configure each connection. I have already started looking for other options.I recently switched from using Windows to a Mac. Raven., Snaporaz, Zx81, and I believe that the new version doesn’t offer much, therefore I decided to uninstall Internet Security 2103 and reinstall the previous version VirusBarrier X6 and will keep using it until my subscription expires. Peace of mind!I also agree with other reviewers: Frankhh24, Cerniuk. Some of the best and critical features of NetBarrier are not existing in the new version:- No Data Vault where you can protect your credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and your passwords. But I could be wrong?) Anyways after researching my options some more I found Intego and installed the trial for Internet Security 2013, which is compatible with Mac OS X 10.8 and what I needed. (It is my understanding that Macs can’t get infected with Windows malware. On my old Windows desktop I ran Symantec or Spyware Doctor (for anti-spyware) but after looking into the differences in internet threats I found that Windows software might not be the best option for my Mac. Problem is it only seemed like a natural shift since I have the iphone but I’m still a newb to OS X. The firewall also adds a nice extra layer of security.
